Newsprint Series, 2022
Part of a signed and numbered edition of 25, this museum-quality archival print reflects an ongoing excavation exploring sexuality, self-expression, and a deep affinity for the natural world. Continuing in the legacy of queer photography, West’s work is characterized by an escapist and idealist state of mind, where the power of youth and romance perseveres. Each careful composition speaks to its maker’s romantic affinities while instilling a sense of awakening desire.
Pocket Prints, 2022
This signed and numbered edition of 50 archival pigment print considers the work and legacy of early gay photographers—referencing pocket prints that were popularized in gay communities during a time when gay image-making was still illegal. Small enough to fit in a pocket, these images were collected and appreciated privately, a secret carried and shared between owner and creator. As queer photography has established its validity and position in photography today, this edition honors the complications and repercussions early gay photographers risked in their efforts to express their identities and desires.
